4: Compare and
contrast the narrative styles and structure of
Doctor Who and Eastenders.
(E.g. linear/ sequential; non-linear/ non-sequential; flashback; realist or anti-realist; restricted or unrestricted; open or closed endings)
Doctor Who is a anti-realist fantasy
drama, in this drama there is out of space props used and also most of their
episodes are based on things that never usually happen on plant earth. There
locations are in space or it would be weird places on the earth. In doctor who
there are many flashbacks and old stories related to the episode coming up. By
showing these flashbacks it enables the audience to understand what has been
happening in the previous episodes, which is an advantage for the watches.
Eastenders is a realist drama, which is
based within real life events that happen with most people. Eastenders has
stories which audience can relate too with things that are happening within
their lives. Their things in this drama are located within a club, a pub, on
the streets and even at some of the characters houses. In this soup drama there
are many things that are relevant to the audience it has all mixed emotions in
each story every characters have their own problems some people are loved and
hated and along the line many more emotional feeling towards others.
The difference between “Doctor Who and
Eastenders” is that Doctor who is an anti-realist drama that doesn’t relate to
any audience lives and on the other hand Eastenders is a realist where is
relates to real life events. A difference between Doctor who and Eastenders is
that even though there are humans used in doctor who there are also aliens,
monsters and spaceships used whereas in Eastenders there is no such thing it
just has normal humans doing what normal humans do live life and try hard.
Eastenders is much more of a drama that audience can relate to because it is
based more on real life whereas doctor who would be more ideal fro children or
even teenagers with a really good imagination and that would believe such
things to be real.
